POSTCARD - LIVE STOCK EXCHANGE BUILDING, KANSAS CITY, MO (Postmark: 1916)
Dear Cousins & Children - Every thing is O.K. I am lonely. Will soon get over that when I get to working. 2461 Troost Ave. Leta
Tearing the first floor men's bathroom down to the studs. Everyone's going to want to hang out in there when it's finished.

Zach on the Livestock Exchange Building…
What I love about the building: I’ve been lucky enough to have a studio in the Livestock Exchange Building for eight plus years and I couldn’t think of a more interesting place to call home base. There is such a unique blend of artists and businesses that occupy the building that it truly showcases the best of what Kansas City has to offer. I feel fortunate to be a part of such an amazing community.

Kristyn on the Livestock Exchange Building…
Our interior design studio is on the 4th floor of the Livestock Exchange Building, with views of downtown Kansas City. I haven't been here long, but I received a very warm welcome. It is a unique and special place loaded with history. The staff and security, owner and building manager are all so kind. The familiar faces, cafe and historical building elements fully intact are some of the things I enjoy.

Rita on the Livestock Exchange Building…
Our building has a heartbeat. The moment you step inside, you feel it—the pulse of a place that’s lived. From the original tiles to the timeless livestock chalkboard, this building has a past that demands to be remembered. Even the glass mail drop—still intact after all these years—holds onto its fun charm.
My studio thrives in this space, where creativity meets grit. The exposed brick speaks of resilience, while the polished floors whisper of progress. It’s industrial strength, tempered with a warmth that feels like home—a place where ideas aren’t just born; they’re built.
The Livestock Exchange Building isn’t just a building —it’s a living testament to where passion, hard work, and history come together. The past and future aren’t separate here; they’re woven into all 9-stories.

-----------------
"The evolution of my painting has been based in landscape. I never thought of my work as having a style. It did evolve however. My early painting was abstract, influenced by Mondrian and then next, and importantly, by Cézanne. In the 1950’s, I used a low-key palette to try to simplify things – yellow ocher, red earth, black. Later, in the 60’s, I decided to go to primary colors and things began to open up, the paintings became larger. But my idea was always tied to the illusion of space and to nature – so, in one sense, I was never abstract.
"In the earlier years, I worked directly, on site, in watercolor and drawing. Watercolor always came naturally to me. I would do a series of drawings at a site, somewhere out of the studio, then I would take those drawings into the studio to paint, in oil. The oils were painted indirectly, in the studio, based on the drawings or watercolors.
"This all changed somewhat suddenly after my second trip to Mexico in 1970. On returning from Guanajuato, I walked into my studio at home and thought, “What am I doing? Why not just look out the window here, and paint what I see?” This seemed revolutionary to me. And that is what I have done since then – I am learning to see. It’s exhilarating."
A majority of our 184 tenants work out of an office or studio like this. 280 square feet, gorgeous original wood floors, white walls, and a simple schoolhouse lamp.
Don't fix it if it ain't broke.
Check out our website in the link in our bio, and navigate to "Available Space" to find your new place.
Our first ever Instagram post features Ken, who signed on full time at the building this year. Ken has an insane skill set (including tricky conduit bends), and has added a lot of value to the building already. Say hey if you see him around.
He's currently installing new overhead lamps in the second floor hallway, which has recently been repainted and looks amazing by the way.
We're currently dialing in two office/studio spaces off that hallway - 200 & 210 - and they will be ready to go soon. 200 has high ceilings and arched doorways, and would be great for a creative firm. 210 feels like a loft studio and has great light from the east.
Stop by and take a look when you're on the second floor, and DM this account or email kerry@livestockexchangebldg.com if you're interested, or know somebody who is.
